From the desk of Aunty Meredith
Well. That all went incredibly well. Weather turned out near perfect, you were terrific, it was a wonderful Third Golden Plains. Thanks to everyone who came, played, helped, worked, enjoyed or took part in any way. A million out of ten.
YOU TELL US
Golden Plains is what is because people like you tell us what you thought of it. So we would love to hear your comments if you have a minute. It means it will be even better next year.
PHOTOS
There’s some photos here. We’ll stick up more soon.
Hope you are recovering gloriously and thanks again very much for Being There. We are lucky to have you. As it turns out, it may well be that friends are indeed electric after all.
Nice job cleaning up the campsites too, cheers.
Lots more soon,
Aunty
ps if you want to see Old Crow Medicine Show this Friday 13th at The Forum, you can.
ARCHIVED NEWS
Yes, we are There yet. Time to Get Prepared (it’s gonna get cold at night) so you can Get Down On It:
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Little Golden Booklet has it all - Playing Times, Maps, What to Bring, The Rules, How to Get There and handy tips for all.
Please download The Little Golden Booklet, print, read and take it with you.
Or you can view it and download later.
Beyond that, if you have any questions about anything, check out Info A-Z for a veritable almanac of Golden Plain-speaking.
THE WEATHER
Looking at the forecast, you need to bring plenty of WARM AND WATERPROOF CLOTHES as well as Slip Slop Slap stuff. It will get very cold at night, so extra blankets or doonas are a good idea, along with a good raincoat, boots, jumpers, a beanie and spare clothes. Sensible footwear is important - the #1 treated injury on the St Johns Ambulance Hit Parade is cut feet. Can’t dance to that.
REMEMBER
- TOTAL FIRE BAN day and night. No gas bottles, BBQs or generators, no cooking. Smokers - take great care to thoroughly extinguish every butt.
- NO GLASS at all
- BRING PHOTO ID even if you are 47 and look 68
- ARRIVE IN CONVOY to camp together. Don’t arrive before 8am Saturday - roadblocks are in place.
TICKET = WRISTBAND = PASSPORT
This year the tickets are wristbands. Remember to put your wristband on as you leave home to go to the festival, leave it on for the duration until you are out the gate heading home at the end. Please be warned - don’t show up without a valid wristband! It’s your passport in, around and out of the festival. All tickets (wristbands) purchased Online or in The Ballot have been posted and should be received by now. If you purchased in a Store then its time to check yours is in a safe place. If you have an issue with delivery please contact Greentix direct.
SUPERNATURAL PITCH CONDITIONS
The team of Excellent Groundskeepers has been working in a dedicated fashion in the Amphitheatre to ensure it is in good shape after the massive wet in December, and the massive dry before and after. Some of the campsites are dry so some rugs or tarps on the ground could be good. (The Amphitheatre itself will be nice). Get out the tent/caravan/campervan/hovercraft and make sure it has all the required bits and bobs and is in good repair.
YES WE ARE PREPARED
Like everyone else, we are very aware of concerns about traveling to regional Victoria following the recent bushfires. We have an extensive fire plan in place and emergency services and support staff on-site to assist us should we need them. The forecast looks favourable in this regard, and there are no fires in our area, but our plans and services will remain fully in place. Your safety is of course paramount to us so there is a quick guide to emergencies and incidents within The Little Golden Booklet. This guide will also be available within the free event program available at the festival. We will have professionals monitoring and advising on the situation across Victoria all weekend and if required we will keep you regularly informed via the stage and cinema sound system and staff across the site in the event of any incident in our area. If you have mobile phone reception at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre and you would like to register with our SMS alert system you can register here before midnight Friday but note this is only one of a number of communication methods we can use if required.
TIMES SQUARE
Gates open 8am Saturday, The Opening Ceremony is at 1:50pm then live music is made from at 2. There’s plenty of space for everyone so no need to arrive earlier than 8am - in fact roadblocks are in place so dont bother. We expect there will be booze and drug testing on the way in and out as is commonplace at many events these years.
RING A DING DING ROAD
If you are heading there from Melbourne way, a section of the Geelong Ring Road has recently been opened which means travel time is a bit shorter, as you veer (right) towards Meredith well before you get into Geelong.
LAST CALL FOR YURTS
We have an excellent new supplier of quality Mongolian Yurts. Yurts, or “gers”, are large round sturdy tent-like structures. These wonderful homes have stood for centuries in Mongolia and the like, are hand-made from canvas, timber and felt and keep cool on hot days and warm on cool days. They sleep up to 15 people, are lockable, comfortable and are available for hire at Golden Plains. They will be already set up - in the “Hong Kong” campground behind The Meredith Eye ferris wheel - so just arrive and move in for the weekend. To make an enquiry or book a Yurt please email Saatia or call her on 0434 539715. They were very popular last Golden Plains and sold out quick.
Looking forward to doing it all and some new things again.
See you in The Supernatural,
